I’m a list maker. Groceries, quilting, tasks, bills…you name it, I’ll list it.

I make a list at the beginning of each year with all the quilting /sewing projects I would like to accomplish. Of course some things get added, some taken off, but I try to complete the list before the new year rolls around. I actually get kinda excited about making the new list….i know…..nerdy, right?

Which brings me to the title of this post, Snowbound. The free BOM from Bunny Hill. I love Bunny Hill patterns and I love snowmen, so I had to do it! I spent the past 2 days working to try & finish it up.

Well, I ran out of fabric..ugh. And I’ve also changed my mind about the borders now, which is totally typical of me……another ugh…

I didn’t want to use “Christmas” fabric, so I used Riley Blake’s Just Dreamy and some Be Merry for the background. I love that turquoise snowflake background. I think its turning out cute…..maybe, oh I don’t know.

I ran out of the Be Merry words in the chain block, so now I gotta do some searching on Etsy.

Here’s the last 3 blocks I had left to complete.

And here’s the alternating blocks I was going to use.

Although by tomorrow I’m sure I will have completely changed my mind again……my final ugh…..

So, for all of you expecting Paige’s Free Motion Monday, I have some bad news….the internet was down yesterday. I told her I’d fill in for her this morning.

I got my elves quilt back from the quilter and it is sooo cute!

It’s a Halloween pattern called Which Witch by Crazy Old Ladies that can also be made into a Christmas quilt by adding the elves shoes with it. I used Kate Spain’s 12 Days of Christmas line.

My quilter did this cool heat setting embellishment on the tips of the toes and the edges of the dresses by using a tool like this.

It sparkles now and really adds that something extra to the quilt.
Check back tomorrow and hopefully we will have Paige’s post ready for you.

Here’s some more ways I use my Christmas quilts…Folded at the end of the guest bed

In the kitchen (because, well, I’m running out of space everywhere else)

draped over the arm of the sofa and laid on the ottoman…

and hanging from the armoire door

Don’t forget to practice your doodle sandwich. I’m showing mine off tomorrow.

Have a creative day everyone!

I make about 2 or 3 Christmas quilts a year. I just know my quilter has to be sick of seeing them. I have 2 waiting to be quilted, one at the quilter, one almost completed, and one that’s in planning. And that doesn’t include the table toppers or other Christmas items I also make. I can’t help it though. I love Christmas fabric! So, I thought I’d share some of my quilts and how I display them through Christmas.

This  is my favorite one and probably sparked my obsession.

I was recently in a class with a quilter who suggested hanging quilts with the 3M picture hangers. They are amazing…no nails, easily removable, and it hangs perfectly flush with the wall.Which is how I hung this one…

Here’s a table topper I made with Sheri Berry’s Christmas line last year.

More quilts tomorrow…

It’s almost that time of year, and I’ve been busy making up some Christmas goodies…but not the fattening kind:)

I seem to be a bit obsessed with these two lines from Basic Grey. Both having the same woodsy browns, icy blues, and and fir greens make combining these two collections effortless, which I love.

I’ve made the Plates for Your table, which is a Moda Bake Shop tutorial.
A hostess gift for the neighborhood Christmas party….

A quilt….

A wall hanging from the scraps of the quilt…..

And, last but not least… no, I can’t say that because I still have enough scraps for something else….. I just completed another Pillow Panache class from the LQS.

Hmmm…I wonder what I can do with the rest of those scraps?

I did!I’ve resisted free motion. It makes me throw small tantrums and I know my sewing machine does not like to be called naughty words. It’s my own fault. I’m impatient and want it to be done right the first time. That’s just not the way it works when you quilt though. And when someone told me it takes many, many hours of practice to get it right…well…I have many, many projects I’d rather be doing. So, I kept putting it off.  So, I promised Paige I would give it a try to show you guys my progress. I’m starting from the beginning y’all… starting with Doodling.  Sure it looks kinda shaky and I ran over my lines a couple of times and I froze up when I started to think about it too hard, but I’m going to practice, practice, practice. Hope you guys do too…Keep in touch and let us know how you’re doing!

I spent yesterday with Shelley from Elsie’s Girl blog finalizing our fabrics for Welcome to the North Pole quilt we’ve been wanting to do together.

I’m using the new Sheri Berry Christmas line, 12 Joys of Christmas, with a black night sky.  You can’t tell from the pic but it’s a black with grayish dots (my snow falling).

Its kinda retro and I’m excited to get started. So, hopefully I’ll have some progress to show you soon.

Tomorrows  post…more Christmas. I just want to apologize now for my Christmas fabric addiction:)

Talk soon

Lorrie

No, now all you Oklahoma quilters out there don’t start to panic. I’m not talking about that kind of twister, because we know its usually not a “lil” one. At least not the one I had the pleasure of meeting:)

It’s a tool for making pinwheels easy!

I had a class last night at the LQS, taught by the fabulous teacher over at Elsie’s Girl Blog… Shelley. Lets see if I can give you a little demo of what I learned.

Start out with 4 background strips and 4 of your favorite charm squares. I used the ever so pretty Bliss by Moda.

Sew the charms together and add the borders and you will have this square.

Place your twister ruler at angle with lines that intersect on seams between the two borders & the first square.

Cut around the entire block and continue across the row until you have something that looks like this.

Now pick them up in order and sew the cut squares together.

I made a Twisting Tables table runner from the book Let’s Twist at http://www.country-schoolhouse.com.

Just like the book says…Fun, Fast, And Easy!
