Christmas is fast approaching but there’s still time to whip up a special handmade gift for the baby in your life.

The Equilateral quilt kit that I kitted for the boys is a popular seller so why shouldn’t the girls get as just a cute quilt as the boys? The Wildflower Meadow line from Melly & Me and Riley Blake Fabrics is perfect for the triangles.

Comfort baby in all the goodness of theses adorable nature friends. The focus fabric in this line features hedgehogs, sweet little bluebirds and playful squirrels all tossed amoung the pretty wildflowers! Aren’t these little hedgehogs adorable!?!

The quilt top colors of this KIT are bright pink, blues, and yellows. The backing is blue wildflowers on white with tiny pink birds tied all together with a hot pink binding.

Complete KIT comes with enough fabric to make the quilt top, binding, backing and free quilt instructions. Batting NOT included. Quilt measures approx. 35″x 42.5″. $42 plus shipping.

Pattern includes step-by-step instructions for assembly. Equilateral triangle quilts are fun and fast to make. After you make one using the pattern, you’ll want to make more! The quilt can either be cut using the template provided in the pattern or using the Creative Grids 60 degree triangle ruler found here. The Equilateral tutorial can be found here if you’d like more info on how to assemble it.

Now…a new one for baby boy…Dino-Roar!

Dino-Roar is made using Riley Blake’s Dinosaur fabric line in a traditional Road To Tennessee quilt layout. A Road to Tennessee block is basically a Snowball block with only two of the corners replaced with a coordinating fabric instead of all four. So easy and perfect for any fabrics and especially scraps.

Dino-Roar uses 8 different fun prints in oranges, greens, browns & blues. There are Dinos tossed in different sizes, a sweet little leaf print and other coordinating Dino ‘egg’ prints. Kona Snow is used for the white. The binding ties it all together with Kona Chocolate.

Dino-Roar measures 45″ x 45″ and is a complete kit as well including the backing, binding and free pattern. $55 plus shipping.

The backing is available in any of the Dinosaur prints and can be selected here at the time of checkout.

Kit comes with bonus instructions for an 18″ pillow using your Dinosaur scraps! Check back tomorrow when I’ll be doing the step-by-step tutorial using a 3-1/2″ Road to Tennessee quilt block.

Easy, fast & fun and just in time for Christmas! Feel free to convo me if you have any questions.

I’ve had this pattern, Posh Tot by Blue Underground, for awhile. I even sell it in the shop but I’ve never gotten around to making it till now.

Only three different fabrics are needed for this quilt. I used a Kona pink, Riley Blake’s ‘Girl Crazy’ line and a pop of color in the square centers to make this modern baby quilt.

I did choose to make the binding from the ‘Girl Crazy’ stripe to make it a bit more interesting.

I love it when my projects can be completed within the day…at least my quilt tops that is. The directions are so easy, I barely had to give them a second glance. I would have been able to finish it all in one day, but I was going to leave the quilting magic up to Paige this time. The pattern comes with different sizes so I bet once you see how easy & fast Posh Tot is, you’ll wanna make more! Maybe even one for yourself:)

Posh Tot can be easily quilted in straight lines, a wavy serpentine stitch, or an all-over.

The kit comes complete with the Blue Underground pattern, quilt top, binding and backing. Batting NOT included.

My sample was made using the stripe and a solid but the kits are also available using the Girl Crazy main fabric in pink or white as the backing. Your choice!

The finished quilt measures 39″x49″ and the KITS are available in the SewModDesigns Etsy shop for $42.00 plus shipping.

So, get all Girl Crazy and make a special little girl a Posh Tot!

It’s funny how creativity strikes when you least expect it! Remember this post for the CLMQG demo I did on the Spinning Star HST’s, Making Perfect Half Square Triangles? Well, several of those quilt blocks became the the inspiration for two new baby quilts. One is the adorable new addition to SewMod , called Seeing Stars. The other is going to be for sale shortly in the SewModMakes Etsy Shop As a finished baby quilt. (Post on that quilt coming soon)

I had made so many HST’s that they were running outta my ears. I kinda got carried away and seeing how fabric is not something to be wasted these days, I was determined to use them.

Seeing Stars
At first this quilt was just going to be a simple star to star block. No bells and no whistles. But how much fun would that be? I love appliqué. I love embroidery. I replicated the plane from the Oh Boy main fabric, positioned the planes horizontally and diagonally to give it the soaring effect through the quilt.

Appliquéing the planes with different colors of thread and hand embroidering the smoke trails gave it the extra whimsy touch.

I used a Kona Ash to frame everything and before you knew it, I had a finished quilt. Paige quilted it for me in a loopy soar and I finished it off with the stripe binding and a polka dot backing…so sweet!

The quilt is always the fast part of the process. It’s been finished for about 3 weeks now. It’s the pattern writing that tends to send the creative process to a slow. turtle. crawl. It needs to be written, tested, and left for a bit do do it all over again…not something to be rushed. And it always helps to have a pattern tester.

So now that I’ve completed the pattern step, I get to blog about it and cut the kits! I love cutting the kits. Kit includes the free pattern, enough fabric for the front & binding…and enough HST paper to make your own perfect stars! The great thing about this baby kit is that there’s hardly any waste. I love that too.

If you’d like to purchase a Seeing Stars Kit, you can visit the SewModDesigns Etsy shop. Kit is $45.00 plus $5.75 shipping for US customers. International shipping rates vary.

They could be landing in your sewing room shortly!

True Blue Baby I Love You…Tips On Cutting And Assembly

“Have a whale of a good time with the fun nautical prints in the True Blue Collection featuring whimsical whales, splashing waves and fun geometrics. Anchors away!”

True Blue is designed by Ana Davis. I just love her children’s prints and Blend never, never disappoints me in the quality of their fabrics. I’ve loved every piece I’ve ever ordered from them and this is no exception! True Blue is vibrant and fun to work with.

I knew I wanted to do a strip quilt with this line. It’s perfect with the big playful whales and the baby whales in a row!

The kit is available in the Etsy shop. It includes step-by-step instructions to strip piece the quilt in no time for that special little one. Kit includes all your fabrics, binding and backing, and sews up fast for a baby shower or gift. You can easily quilt with straight lines. It’s a DIY complete project! *batting not included.

And I have some helpful tips for you if you’ve purchased the kit and are ready to start on your baby quilt.

I fussy cut the baby whales to make this quilt, but it wasn’t any trouble to do so since the fabric was printed really straight to begin with. Straighten the edge of your fabric so that the ‘white wave’ is on the cut. Line your ruler up for the 2 inches. The white wave that’s next in line should fall somewhere on that 2 inches. As you can see in the photo, my ruler lined up between the waves.

Cut your strip out and attach to the selected fabrics, taking note of the whale directions. They swim opposite each other!

After all these years sewing, I make the most basic mistakes:( Am I the only one out there that still does this?!? The seam ripper is my best friend..

Sew the strips together in pairs and trim the edges. *When sewing rows, alternate your sewing direction right to left and left to right. Alternating will keep rows straight and help prevent stretching in one direction.

I hope you have as much fun making this as I did! And if you have anymore questions about the True Blue baby quilt, don’t hesitate to ask. I’m happy to help!
