I find that the bad thing about starting a project that lasts quite a while, actually years, is I may have liked it when I began, but now not so much. You take too long and your taste in fabric changes or you’ve past that point where it doesn’t have priority anymore.
I swear this thing is probably 7 years old. My Grandmothers Flower Garden quilt was the perfect thing to do when I was waiting at the orthodontist, waiting for school to let out…waiting, waiting. You know…all those chunks of time where you think…..I could be doing something. Well I was….making about a gazillion little hexagons.
So, what do I do with them now? It occupies 2 drawers that has different projects just dying to take its place. The Flickr group I belong to is hosting a “Git R Done” quilt along and this was the first thing I thought of. I’m committed to freeing this poor project from its lonely home.
I found this pic online that looks like they have set the blocks in a quilt. This would be less daunting than finishing it the way I had started.
I could also use some of them for the sewing boxes in the Etsy store.
Paige found this cute pillowcase idea.
I feel sooo guilty about this project so I have to do something with it.
What do you guys think….suggestions?

I think the quilt looks fabulous! You have so many blocks sewn together already. If you added, took away, or rearranged to get a more rectangular or square shape then you could applique it onto border pieces. For the rest – small, quick projects!

Lorrie I agree with Shelley, your lifestyle no longer lends itself to completing the GMF as a full size quilt.I love the idea of the smaller projects especially the pillow case, I just love it. The piece that you have already started to put together could be turned into a beautiful wall hanging. I showed my cousin’s completed GMF on my flickr site, the only reason she was able to finish hers was because she had some health problems (now resolved) and it still took her 10 years.

Gail I just looked at the Flickr pic and her quilt is sooo pretty. But I’m afraid your right about my lifestyle now. So I think I’m going to take Shelley’s advice and use part of it for a pillow and some of them on the boxes. I’ve also seen them framed so maybe I’ll do one of those too. Then I will be free and so will the quilt. Its not fair to a quilt to never be seen:)

Thanks for your suggestion Sherree! We’re having a UFO challenge at our Guild. I think you may just have inspired me to dig that back out and make something with it!
