I hope y’all had a great time last night with family and friends. I spent the time with some friends in the neighborhood. I’m no party animal. I like to be in  my pajamas when that ball drops.

Both,  Susan and I are from the lower half of the US. Her being from Alabama and me from Oklahoma. So we decided to end the year with our favorite food…fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy. It was the best dinner ever and the most fattening. But who cares right….we were in our pj’s:)

Oh, and I forgot, we also had banana cream pie after.

I’m so glad someone finally transplanted up here from the south!

I’m going to try and send the Sooners some good luck today for the Fiesta Bowl game against the Huskies.

Go Sooners!

Here’s the recipe  I used for the Red Velvet Cake I made for Christmas dinner. It would also be a pretty cake for Valentine’s Day too. Sorry the pic is so washed out.

Of course I used Paula Deen’s recipe. You can’t go wrong with Paula. I did change a few things though.

Cake

2 eggs

2C sugar

2TBSP cocoa

2oz. red food coloring

2 sticks butter

2-1/2C cake flour

1tsp salt

1C buttermilk

1tsp vanilla

½ tsp baking soda

1TBSP vinegar

Preheat oven to 350. Beat eggs; add sugar. Mix cocoa and food coloring. Add to butter and egg mixture; mix well. Sift together flour and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Blend in vanilla. In a small bowl, combine soda and vinegar and add to mixture. Pour into 3 greased and floured 9” round pans. Bake for 20-25 min, or till tester comes out clean…do not overcook or the cake will be dry.

Icing

16oz. cream cheese, softened

2 sticks of butter, softened

1lb powdered sugar

2C marshmallow cream

Dash of coconut extract

Blend cream cheese and butter. Add marshmallow, sugar, and a dash of coconut to taste.

Red velvet cake is a dense cake…not fluffy.

Enjoy!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I know I did. I spent both Christmas Eve and Christmas with my friend Susan and her family. The season always seems to just fly by after Thanksgiving, but I’m kinda feeling like I’m glad its over. I’m really excited about the SewMod Etsy store, and now I will be better able to shift all my focus there.

I did want to show you what “Santa” brought me this year…I think you’ll like it.

From my talented mom…….

Can you believe that she made this in just about a month. She asked what I would like and I said this kit. I guess she knows by now that i would have eventually asked her to finish it for me anyway:)….thanks mom. I love it! I just hate to put it away for next fall.

She also sent me the new Amy Butler line Soul Blossoms.

This is what my mom-law sent. She must have been paying attention when I hinted about wanting the Moda Grunge. And this hand carved cardinal was with them.

My neighbors know I love to cook and am always sharing leftovers. I  received two awesome cookbooks and a some new tools from Williams Sonoma. There has already been a request for Banana Pie!

I’m fond of Heather Mulder Peterson’s fabric and books. If you haven’t checked out her blog, Trends and Traditions, head on over and take a look. She has a beautiful home that she’s decorated with a lot of her quilts and fabrics. It just might inspire you to decorate with some of your quilts too.

I’ve made lots of projects from her books & here is a table runner I made recently with her line Rebel Roses.
I also have some of her fabrics from Sanibel and the Christmas line At Home For The Holidays. So, I was excited to hear aabout the new one coming out called Artful Home. Here’s some pics I pulled from her site.

Aren’t they awesome. I love the brown & blue one and the red floral print. Got to get me some of this. It doesn’t hit the stores till late March though, which gives me plenty of time to figure out what to make with it.

Hi – those are gorgeous fabrics Lorrie – I want them all too and especially when the browns and blues are mixed together which leads me to my fabric pick for today…Etchings in Silvery Moon by Studio E Fabrics. The blues, grays and silvers reminded me of the wintery sky, fresh layer of snow and the bitter cold we are having. Makes me want to snuggle under a quilt sipping hot chocolate next to a crackling fire – wow, a little corny but I think I’m finally accepting its Winter!

We still have some fine tuning with the header and our logo but we are up and running now. I listed some Christmas flour sack tea towels as our first items.

Aren’t they cute? I had so much fun working on these. And did you notice that I found another way to use my Figgy Pudding and Fruitcake scraps:)

Paige is also working on some things too. She’s going to have some big tote bags available and she loves to make baby items. I can’t wait to see those.

I’m working on this really cool sewing box that doubles as a pincushion. It’s made from an antique Singer sewing drawer. Hopefully I will have some of those available in January.

We also are working on having fabric and sewing supplies.

We would love to hear what you guys think!

My name is Lorrie and I love to create, whether it’s sewing, quilting, cooking, or crafting. There is creativity flowing through my family. One of my grandmas taught me to embroider; the other taught me to sew. My mom gave me my first sewing machine and helped me learn to quilt. I think that Singer sewing machine was the best gift!

When I began sewing, it was Halloween costumes for my son.

Now my little scarecrow is 15, so I no longer get to do that.

But, I visited a local quilt shop several years ago with my mom and since then …I don’t think I go one day without thinking “what am I going to work on today?” Should I work on my unfinished appliqué, should I begin cutting out a new quilt? Maybe make a cheesecake or a new leash for Daisy May?

So many possibilities!  So, come join us and hopefully we will inspire you to create something too.

Hi, I’m Paige and memories of my first quilt given to me by my grandma inspires me to design and create handmade items so others can experience the same feeling I’ve had of receiving such a special gift made especially for me!

The first quilt I sewed was an Ohio Star block paper pieced on my mother’s Singer back in 1995. Her machine had two speeds zero or 150 mph! Many times I had to make sure my fingers weren’t part of the seams! Oh, and I used regular copier paper so you can imagine the fun I had picking all the paper out of the seams. Shortly afterward I invested in a Bernina Virtuosa 150 which is amazingly precise, smooth and reliable!

Then on a very impulsive day almost four years I invested in a Gammill Classic Plus. Since I loved to draw and doodle transitioning from my Bernina to the longarm for machine quilting was amazingly easy. In August 2007 started up a longarm quilting business PaigeAlaine Quilting & Designs. It was very successful but time was becoming a factor especially with a full time job during the week. So, a few months ago I decided  to stop quilting for clients and focus on designing patterns and quilting my own treasures!
