The Michael Miller challenge fabrics arrived, are cut and are ready to be passed out this Sunday at the CLMQG meeting. I hope you’re as excited as me! This fabric is beautiful and so soft. I have an idea in my head about what I want to do with it, but of course I have to keep it a secret!
We have 2 alternate times for pick-ups for those of you who have registered for the challenge but can’t make it to Sundays meeting.
Paige and I will be at the Starbucks on route 31 in Cary in front of the Super Walmart from 9am to 10am on Friday, April 11th.
Shelley will also have them available from 12-5 Friday afternoon at Material Girl.
I spent all day cutting & bundling these.
And after I bundled them, I added a little ‘fortune cookie’ note to set the mood!

We’re excited to release a PDF version of our Cannon Beach pattern released this past March. The PDF version has lots of pictures to support each step with more detail to give even a beginner quilter, looking for a challenge, the help to complete this quilt with ease.
The original quilt design was inspired by my trip to Cannon Beach, Oregon in 2010 with my mom, sister and one of my longest and dearest friends, Karen –it was such a memorable trip for me, and everything was so beautiful.
When I stumbled upon a bundle of Denyse Schmidt’s Hope Valley fabrics the images above, forever embedded in my mind seem to flow right thru the fabric into this giant Dresden design.
The machine quilting design seemed to flow just as easy once the quilt was loaded onto the Gammill. I started from the center and continued outward with concentric circular patterns, changing the design with each circle. This photo was taken when the sun was perfectly diffused thru the window over my front door – the quilting popped and the quilt came alive! This is definitely my favorite picture.
The small half Dresdens in the corners were quilted similarly.
When we received the Midnight Garden fabric line by Sandy Henderson for Michael Miller, Lorrie was inspired to make her version of the pattern. She added some Art Gallery Bespoken and Oval Elements, and one of Joel Dewberry Heirloom fabrics –they all went together so very nicely. I love how fabric can reflect a quilter’s vision, personality and inspiration so differently.
Isn’t the Midnight Garden Gate the perfect center! Lorrie requested a swirl pattern so I quilted each blade from the center outward to the tip.
The large center Dresden was made using Marilyn Doheny’s 25” 9-degree Wedge Ruler and the smaller outer half Dresdens were made using the Easy Dresden tool by Darlene Zimmerman. See Lorrie’s Easy Dresden Demo on how to use. These tools are so versatile and I highly recommend getting them so you can create any size Dresden and acrylic rulers do make it easier to cut multiple wedges. As a bonus though, we included paper templates for the specific size wedges in the Cannon Beach pattern.
We had such great feedback on this fabric line, Lorrie made up kitsfor this version which include a free pattern. Kits, PDF patterns and the original hardcopy version are all available in our Etsy shop!
It feels sooo good to mark something off the list as finished. There was a whole lotta that going on around here this week! Three to be precise.
BackYard Baby Quilted, bound & kitted.
I kitted these for our upcoming show in the sand pails with a shovel. After all it is called BackYard Baby. So cute! Hopefully it will draw some attention into the booth.
Wonky WildFlowers Borders on, quilted and bound. Super cute!
Paige meandered the center around the embroidery work to make it pop out.
And I did a little wonkiness in the log cabins.
Spring Dresden Table Runner
We made this with the new fabric line Lush by Patty Young using our pattern, North Garden Dresden Table Runner.
A pretty, butter yellow background with bright creamsicle & pink dresdens.
We fussy cut the Flower Shop fabric for the dresden centers.
Bright and cheery! The perfect project during winter while wishing for spring. And I kitted these inside flower pots and added a cute yellow daisy.
These kits should be available at Etsy and SewModDesigns soon.
Now, on to cutting out my next project. Talk to ya tomorrow:)
As promised a little show ‘n’ tell of what I’ve been busy with this week. This quilt only took me a about an hour to get together and it turned out just adorable for a little boy.I made it from the Hootie & Friends pattern that we have but left off the applique. Super easy!
I added an orange flange to separate the charm squares and keep the outer border from blending in and I’m going to use the same fabric for the binding. I do believe it adds just the right amount of pop to the quilt. Isn’t that border fabric just the cutest? I can’t wait till Paige gets it quilted so I can show you the finished quilt. We’ll be taking these kits with us to the Pride of the Prairie Quilt Show in March.
I spent some time with Shelley over at Elsie’s Girl this week and worked on a couple of pot holder samples from this pattern.
Very fast, easy and turned out pretty darn cute!
Snips and snails and puppy dog tails. That’s what little boys are made of! At least mine was. I think I’ve mentioned before that Russell had a tub of toy snakes, worms, beetles, and critters. He would take them outside, play with them in the dirt or arrange them in the house.
This new line from Michael Miller reminds me of those times long ago when the creepy critters, which he called “buggas”, kept him entertained. Now it’s girls, hanging with friends and video games…oh, the teenage years. It was so much easier when he brought bugs home:)
The bug jars are my fave from this line.
I’m also loving this cute ant maze. We tried that once. Didn’t end well for the ants.
This one is backordered and I can’t wait to get it in. Look for it to come in a couple of weeks, called Windy Day.

It’s cold & blustery today. It reminds me of that Winnie the Pooh episode. I expect to see Piglet and his scarf fly by my window at any moment:)
We’ve been working on a few projects recently. A commission quilt for one of Paige’s friends, which I hope to show off soon and a couple of other things in the works. Recently, I found this back issue of American Patchwork & Quilting that had a cute purse made from tea towels in it and we really wanted to try it out.
We were just dying to use Sandi Henderson’s Secret Garden, so we made a little adjustment for fat quarters and went for it.
It has divided pockets on each side and these big wooden handles, which I love.
All that’s left now is to find the perfect embellishment for the front and Paige will have a stylish new bag!

My first fabrics arrived the other day….Michael Miller. Some Funky Christmas, Ho Ho Hoot, and Yule Trees.
Just look at these sweet little reindeer. They’re so retro. I’m probably going to kick myself later for not buying a lot more of this in the turquoise. Actually, I’m hoping it’s still available on the bolt. This could be dangerous!

Honestly, my days have been screwed up because of the snow days. I didn’t realize it was almost Fabric Friday till about 10 o’clock last night. I’m seriouly unprepared!
Instead of leaving you hanging, I thought I would just show you some of the fabrics I can’t seem to stop thinking about.
Up 1st is Knitty Gritty from Michael Miller. I love this with the scissors under the skulls. The other piece to this line has knitting needles crossed behind the skulls.
It comes in lavender too. I can see a cute wallet or a coffee cup cozy out of this.

I don’t know how old this Halloween fabric is. I think it’s Maywood Studios. I know Paige will like this one.
