It’s the season girls…Pj ‘s, hot chocolate, lots of TV and hand work. Yes, it’s almost winter and all I wanna do is bunker down, finish projects, and start new ones that I can finally finish this time next year.
Speaking of that…our annual downtime project last year is finally finished! It only took me a year to find the time..just in time to start a new one that is.
Let’s recap how these projects go…
*November/December is our slow time of year which allows us to work on projects for fun.
*We usually take a pattern or idea and put our own spin on it to make it fun & spark our creativity.
*2011’s project was the trees from material obsession.
*2012’s project was Tree House Hideaway from the book Hexa Go-Go. A must have for the hexie lover by the way!
The original tree house is rated ‘G’.
But my story is definitely for the more mature. My tree house is for adults only y’all.
Meet Samantha.
Her favorite mode of transportation is a bicycle and her basket is always full of pretty flowers.
She’s just up in the tree house ensuring a great time with her babe by adding a little something special to the punch…vodka:)..martinis are on the menu up in here.
Her Babe has arrived early for their rendezvous. She better hurry…
So sweet..he’s brought her flowers! Uh..he better have not picked those from her basket…hmmm.

So you see, just by taking an existing pattern, thinking out of the box, you can create your own story. Have fun with your projects. Mix it up! Not with vodka, but with different medias. Add embroidery, crochet, or buttons.
For example,..I added embroidered lazy daisies & french knots on the basket and his bouquet for more dimension. There are no rules when you allow yourself to make it your own.
Now I need a new story and I promise NOT to take an entire to finish this one…It’s time to create!
If you’re in the area join us March 10 & 11, 2012 for the Pride of the Prairie Quilt Show . Hours are 9-5 on Saturday & 11-4 on Sunday. The show will be held at Richland Grade School, 1919 Caton Farm Road, Crest Hill, IL.
I’ve been busy, busy cutting kits and preparing samples, but I did find enough time in my schedule to do some crafting this week. I’m totally hooked on hoop art, so I decided to do a little of my own by hooping “SewMod” and resting them on top of my peg board in the studio. Cuteness!!
Using Lush fat quarters, I fused and machine appliqued the letters with a decorative stitch on my sewing machine.
I added a piece of muslin for stability, hooped them, trimmed the fabric and pressed the trimmed fabric to the back. You can choose to cover the back but if its going against the wall, who’s gonna know, right?
So simple and sooo cute. It puts me in a spring mood. It also doesn’t hurt that our weather has been awesome. I finally was able to open my windows and air the house out…yay!

I made another weekend finish, Wonky Wildflowers. Have you ever seen anything soo dang cute!
I really enjoyed doing this. This pattern has many techniques in it that kept me interested. Embroidery of course, applique, both hand and machine, making the hexagons, and using the easy dresden to make all the wedges for the grass and the sun. The one thing I had never done was make the wonky log cabins. I saved them for last and as you can tell by this middle blue and pink one, my first attempt was a little not so wonky.
It’s more difficult than you think to make something not straight! I did let go and not be so uptight when it came to whacking off my edges and finally got the hang of it. But I did notice when I was finished that all my blocks tend to only wonk to one side:)
The only thing left to finish this up is the border. I spent all day Sunday hem hawing over which fabric to use. If you know me, that can be tedious. It has to be right or forget it. After all, I spent all that time and love making it. I’m not going to settle. I did really want to use something from my stash. I had one tiny scrap piece of fabric from the Favorites collection by Me And My Sister and it had to be that.
I had to order it. So I should be able to complete this adorable little wall hanging this week. Then of course the dreaded quilting..ugh! Let the whining begin:)
Can’t wait to show off the finished piece. That will be my motivation!
Next Wonky is…Wonky Winter.
The SewMod group is going to tackle this as a sew-in project hopefully in March. This will be exciting to see all the different versions from our talented group. I already have an idea for mine!
I came across a free block of the month over at Shabby Fabrics called Country Cottages. Just what I love, a block that has embroidery & applique. If you’re new to applique she even has a tutorial available. Here’s my version..
The only thing I changed was leaving off the snowflakes because it competed with my background. I think it turned out a bit more swiss cottage than country, but that’s ok. That’s what’s so great about these free BOM’s with their Flickr groups. Everyone gets to post their own interpretation and we can all be inspired by each others work.

Good morning everyone! I’m feelin’ a bit better. My cast is on and the Doc says I’m healing nicely.
We’ve been busy getting ready for our 1st quilt show this weekend. We set up on Thursday. All of our friends have been so supportive, stopping by to sew or cut fabric for me. A big thank you to everyone who is helping!

Here’s a quilt we developed for the show. We call it Sassy Strollers and is available in pattern or kit.

This quilt!
We used the Riley Blake, Hoo’s In The Forest, fabric to make this super easy baby quilt. A charm pack, a few yards of fabric, throw in some appliqued cuteness, & a couple hours of sewing and you’ve got an adorable keepsake!
I appliqued strawberries in one corner and a sweet little owl in the other.
Paige designed SewMod labels for all our handmade items. The are just printed on this fabric paper we found at the craft store.
I used pinking shears to trim the edges and sewed it right into the binding.
This is a really inexpensive and easy quilt. The kit is available for $29 and that includes the backing and binding. It’s available in 3 colorways, yellow, blue, and pink. This quilt is going to be part of our booth at the show but also will be available in our new store coming soon on Etsy …
This shop will be dedicated to handmade baby items, fabric and patterns. We’re pretty excited about launching this as part of SewMod! We have sooo many things going on, my head is spinning!!
I’ve been working on some things this week. Cutting kits for the show, cutting fabrics, trying to come up with a cute baby quilt for the Hoo’s In The Forest line…but I swear, every time I get up or move from my spot, this is what is in front of me.
Guilt. She’s just too cute. I think this is her plan..and it’s working. I think that ball is permanently attached to her mouth!
I did manage to stitch up 2 tea towels for Paige. Retro Kitties.
He thinks he’s a cool cat and she’s teasing him…meow…pfft…as if:)

Come on y’all sing along! This is something to sing about. We whipped up one of the OU quilts for a friend.
Paige did the quilting and oh my, she did an amazing job!!
Would you just look at how the OU stands out with all those whimsy swirls.
And when you turn it over the OU pops off the backing since she used a white bobbin.
The quilt is really easy to get together since its a log cabin.
I think this makes my 3rd OU quilt. Just spreading the Sooners love y’all!
Yesterday, Jeanne, my Oklahoma Sista from my Flickr Tea Group asked us how our spring projects were going. Well, Jeanne here’s what I’ve been doing and I’d have to say they are going pretty well. I made these cute tea towels with some of my leftover Grandmother’s Flower Garden blocks.
These make me want tulips, warm weather, and green grass. Speaking of tulips, I was too lazy to plant mine last fall and they’re trying to bloom in my garage! Can you believe that! I did see signs of my Hyacinths coming up yesterday..Yay!

I’ve been busy making a couple more of the sewing boxes. I wanted to modern these two up, so I recreated the dresdens that I originally did for Shelley’s row quilt.
I’m totally in love with these. I’m positive that this would make a spectacular dresden quilt. If only I had more time. I’ve been saying that a lot lately!
I did a purple dresden…my fave. I really like the flower background fabric on this one.
Sorry y’all, this one’s already spoken for. The only one hitting Etsy is this super cute hot pink one.
I’ve got a couple more boxes. I’m working on another one with the hand quilted Grandmother’s Flower Garden & a GFG block that’s appliqued on yellow plaid. That one is turning out cute, cute!
