Happy Shopping!
Have you been busy as elves getting ready for Christmas? I have my tree up and and my house decorated, a bit of shopping accomplished but I’m still working on those handmade items. There’s still time though, don’t panic! This is what I tell myself daily:(
We did manage to make this super cute Christmas Elves table runner.
The runner is made from the pattern Which Witch by Crazy Old Ladies.
Both are available in the Etsy shop and at SewModDesigns.com. We’re having a Christmas Sale this week on all handmade items at SewModDesigns.com and the Etsy shop, 20% off. Don’t miss it!
Another great gift idea for those co-workers, teens, or your BFF is the Little Wallet. We recently finished these up for a friend who plans to share the handmade love with her co-workers.
We have kits available with the crochet flower or buy the pattern and make them from your scraps. They whip up easily and fast!
As promised, this week I am going to show you some of the projects that we had on display in our booth at the quilt show. Better late than never, right? These are things that friends helped me get together while my arm was broken and I didn’t get a chance to blog about. Well, my arm is feeling much better and I can type with both hands now. Physical Therapy made it feel so much better. So, back to blogging. I have no excuses anymore!
My mom made up sets of handmade crochet flowers for us to sell. A set of 3 in approximate sizes 2.5″, 2″ & 1″. She made 8 different sets. The variegated purple is my fave!
She also made individual ones for us to use in kits. This is the sweetest Little Wallet kit. It only requires 2 fat quarters. And who wouldn’t want to be original and have a cute crochet flower instead of a button! These wallets whipped up really fast. I didn’t want to stop making them. Great stocking stuffer, don’t ya think?
And then we kitted the slippers with flowers also.
Lots of ideas for these cute flowers…hair clips and headbands for girls, scrapbooking, quilts. We even attached a tiny one to the cute appliqued owl for the Hootie & Friends quilt kit.
Each kit comes tied with a crochet flower…so cute!
Thanks Mom!
The Northern Illinois Quilt Fest runs July through September and during this time some of the local barns and gardens are either featuring a painted quilt block or a quilt block garden, or both. Paige and I decided to hit the road yesterday for a little break from sewing and check out the ones that were being displayed locally in Crystal Lake.
First up was our local community college, MCC. The college has a small walking flower garden on campus. This was such a delight to me because I didn’t even know it was back there. If you’re a local, you should definitely take a little tour.
Everywhere we looked we saw perfect areas to drape a quilt, so we asked permission to come back and take pics. We had just finished up with one of our shop samples from the Pick A Bunch line. What better quilt to display in a flower garden than a sweet little quilt with colorful daisies on it.
This quilt was made from the Heather Mulder Peterson book, Living Large and the pattern was called Pretty In Pink. The original pattern had several appliqued flowers in the corners but we choose to leave them off. It was so sweet, it didn’t need any extras…it’s a Pick A Bunch of sweetness!
We took Summer Tweets along with us too. The Wrenly fabric was also perfect for these outside pics since it’s full of birdie artwork. There were two perfect spots to display it.
The quilts looked beautiful hanging in the sunlight surrounded by flowers and trees. This little garden would have made a perfect place for a small quilt display. MCC was featuring the quilt garden block on the tour, but to be honest, we still can’t figure out which block it’s supposed to be.
This barn is our local community space for people to plant a veggie garden who don’t have the space in their own backyard. There is acreage behind it and I always see the people back there tending to their garden. This block was the Weather Vane Variation.
Countryside Nursery hosted both the garden and painted quilt block…the St. Louis block.
And this one was a private participant in the tour. Their block was Ohio Star Variation.
I’d like to see them leave the painted quilts on the barns even after the show ends. Hopefully, Paige and I will be able to see more of the barns, gardens, and festivities in the other cities in the quilt fest through the next few months. We’ll be sure and take the camera along so you can follow in on the fun!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Tweet, tweet…
Valori Well’s newest line arrived last week! We have 11 bolts. The artwork is what’s really amazing. I was even thinking of stretching some on canvas to hang on the walls.
Aren’t these mamma birds cute?
We spent an entire Saturday ooohing and ahhing over these fabrics & Paige came up with a great pattern design to show off the big prints. The pattern will be available in the Etsy shop next week.
I picked up these rockers for my patio this weekend. The weather has been so nice. This is where you’ll find me if you stop by. So come on over. We can chat and sip some iced tea.
I’ll be looking out for ya:) Enjoy your weekend everyone!
Our first official order..from a human, not a computer! It was exhilarating, exciting, scary and hopefully one day will be just another day at the office.
The Rep from Westminster/Free Spirit was at the house yesterday. With the rep, you get to touch the fabric, see the samples. The computer just doesn’t do the actual colors justice. We did have to pick some of the newer releases from the printed swatches because they hadn’t made it to the states yet. Which is why it’s so important to be at market. They have all the fabric samples there.
Now, I’m a planner. I was prepared for this meeting.
Printout out the products we were interested in..check. Ballpark range of the money we were going to spend…check. Ok, I can hear you snickering now.
You definitely get caught up in the moment. So you wanna see what we got a little caught up with?
A few of Honey Child by Jennifer Paganelli
Heirloom by Joel Dewberry
Wrenly by Valorie Wells
And Taza by Dena Designs
We also ordered Kaffe fat quarter sets. And I promise not to bore you with every meeting we have with the Reps:) But I just couldn’t help myself. I had to share our newest fabric adventure. We should also promise our Rep. that we’ll be more decisive next time. There might have been a little too much…”I don’t know, do you like that, do we need that, should we?”
Paige is going to be at a retreat this weekend. Check back on Monday to see what she’s been up to.
Thanks for hanging with us this week and have a great weekend everyone!
I pulled some of our favorite pics from the designers blogs to show you whats coming soon. Visit Valori Wells and Joel Dewberry for more info on these fab lines. I know Valori has been busy making some pretty cool stuff from Wrenly.
Wrenly by Valori Wells…
And some Heirloom by Joel Dewberry…
Both of these, Wrenly and Heirloom, will be out in June.
