I worked on a birthday present for my nephew. Another Minecraft Creeper…sSSSSsss BOOM! This time I used a variety of greens instead of solids. I like it. It looks more like grass:)

I drooled over a Janome Hello Kitty machine..in turquoise:)

I worked. I did some blogging, cut some fabrics and prepped for a guild meeting. My embroidery demo is all ready to go. Can’t wait to see everyone again. Wow the months are just flying by! I’m starting to feel a bit pinched for time with the holidays creeping up on me…sSSSSsss BOOM!

Paige is working on the layout and, hopefully soon, I’ll be able to get it ready for quilting.

Then, us girls went out to celebrate and unwind at the Blues Bar for dinner. The Bluesmobile is actually in the bar y’all! Very cool place with some tasty BBQ.

Literally..I still have so many quilts tucked away and keeping them buried in plastic tubs in the garage makes me cringe..

So I’ve put my beautiful little Tea Cup Quilt on eBay to see if it can find a good home. Where it will be loved. Where it can be displayed. Where it won’t be stuck in a tub!

I made this quilt while I belonged to my Tea Buddies Flickr group. While I was a member, I met lots of ladies I still keep an eye on and a share a sweet word with every now and then.

I had a lot of fun in that group. I was a part of something where I created and my Buddies supported my efforts. I would strongly encourage anyone to get involved. Jump in and join a group. Join a block exchange. Join a swap. Make friends y’all…Yes, online friends!

I designed this quilt myself. I hand appliquéd the tea cups and hand embroidered the flowers. I can’t remember if I used the embroidery designs from a CrabApple Hill or Black Cat Creations pattern. I believe I adapted them a bit to fit in a tea cup.

I was inspired by my collection of tea cups I displayed on my kitchen hutch…flowers, cups and doilies.

Originally, my design was supposed to incorporate my moms crochet doilies but once I finished the quilt, it was a little too busy with the crochet. But no worries mom..I kept the doilies:)

So tell your all your tea buddies that there’s a special quilt top out there for sale!

All it needs is a quilter to finish it off, or instead, just add the backing and make it a table topper. It’s small enough to even use as a wall hanging or a throw.

Don’t let quilts live in plastic tubs! Adopt one today:)

True Blue Baby I Love You…Tips On Cutting And Assembly

“Have a whale of a good time with the fun nautical prints in the True Blue Collection featuring whimsical whales, splashing waves and fun geometrics. Anchors away!”

True Blue is designed by Ana Davis. I just love her children’s prints and Blend never, never disappoints me in the quality of their fabrics. I’ve loved every piece I’ve ever ordered from them and this is no exception! True Blue is vibrant and fun to work with.

I knew I wanted to do a strip quilt with this line. It’s perfect with the big playful whales and the baby whales in a row!

The kit is available in the Etsy shop. It includes step-by-step instructions to strip piece the quilt in no time for that special little one. Kit includes all your fabrics, binding and backing, and sews up fast for a baby shower or gift. You can easily quilt with straight lines. It’s a DIY complete project! *batting not included.

And I have some helpful tips for you if you’ve purchased the kit and are ready to start on your baby quilt.

I fussy cut the baby whales to make this quilt, but it wasn’t any trouble to do so since the fabric was printed really straight to begin with. Straighten the edge of your fabric so that the ‘white wave’ is on the cut. Line your ruler up for the 2 inches. The white wave that’s next in line should fall somewhere on that 2 inches. As you can see in the photo, my ruler lined up between the waves.

Cut your strip out and attach to the selected fabrics, taking note of the whale directions. They swim opposite each other!

After all these years sewing, I make the most basic mistakes:( Am I the only one out there that still does this?!? The seam ripper is my best friend..

Sew the strips together in pairs and trim the edges. *When sewing rows, alternate your sewing direction right to left and left to right. Alternating will keep rows straight and help prevent stretching in one direction.

I hope you have as much fun making this as I did! And if you have anymore questions about the True Blue baby quilt, don’t hesitate to ask. I’m happy to help!

Happy Shopping!

It’s the season girls…Pj ‘s, hot chocolate, lots of TV and hand work. Yes, it’s almost winter and all I wanna do is bunker down, finish projects, and start new ones that I can finally finish this time next year.
Speaking of that…our annual downtime project last year is finally finished! It only took me a year to find the time..just in time to start a new one that is.

Let’s recap how these projects go…
*November/December is our slow time of year which allows us to work on projects for fun.
*We usually take a pattern or idea and put our own spin on it to make it fun & spark our creativity.
*2011’s project was the trees from material obsession.
*2012’s project was Tree House Hideaway from the book Hexa Go-Go. A must have for the hexie lover by the way!

The original tree house is rated ‘G’.

But my story is definitely for the more mature. My tree house is for adults only y’all.

Meet Samantha.

Her favorite mode of transportation is a bicycle and her basket is always full of pretty flowers.

She’s just up in the tree house ensuring a great time with her babe by adding a little something special to the punch…vodka:)..martinis are on the menu up in here.

Her Babe has arrived early for their rendezvous. She better hurry…

So sweet..he’s brought her flowers! Uh..he better have not picked those from her basket…hmmm.
Come on up Babe! Let me fix you a drink…It’s time for our Tree House Rendezvous!

So you see, just by taking an existing pattern, thinking out of the box, you can create your own story. Have fun with your projects. Mix it up! Not with vodka, but with different medias. Add embroidery, crochet, or buttons.

For example,..I added embroidered lazy daisies & french knots on the basket and his bouquet for more dimension. There are no rules when you allow yourself to make it your own.

Now I need a new story and I promise NOT to take an entire to finish this one…It’s time to create!

Have you carved your pumpkins, dressed in your costume and ate too much candy already? Ya, me too! Last weekend we had a small get together, ate, drank, and watched scary movies.
I was a nerd, which really didn’t require too much of a wardrobe change. Although I hope you guys don’t think I run around with my finger up my nose all the time.

Paige was Wonder Woman and she came in her invisible jet! What,…I’m serious;)

And Daisy was a princess in a tutu!

I finally finished that Which Witch’s Boot embroidery that I started quite some time ago for Paige. I think it turned out really well.

I do wish I’d been more heavy handed on the crayon technique. Live and learn. Next time I’ll try not to be so careful on the coloring. I found this image on Pinterest and I like how dark the boot turned out. It looks so real!

It’s in Paige’s hands now and she gets to choose the colors and quilting. I pulled a couple pics from the Internet for ideas to help with her decision. This is from the original pattern by Crabapple Hill.

And here’s some pretty cool quilting done on this one..

But this color combo is my fave! I love the green!

Have a safe & Happy Halloween everyone! No tricks…just treats!

There’s a new chill in the air and as I was walking daisy this morning, I realized how much I love fall in Chicago. The leaves change beautiful colors, the air is crisp, its apple pickin’ time and lets not forget my favorite drink at Starbucks is out..Pumpkin Spice Lattes!

And you know another great thing about fall? It’s time to start decorating for the holidays! We had two big hits in Madison this year that will surely inspire you & light a fire under your britches to start working on those holiday projects.

Blend fabrics has a new line out called Spooktacular. It was so popular that we’ve ordered a second round of bolts. We made this quilt with our Summer Tweets pattern. So simple that the top can be assembled from start to finish in a day! Summer Tweets was perfect for showing off the large scale prints. I just love that apothecary jar fabric.

This kit can be found in the Etsy shop for $45.00 including the pattern for free! No time left this year for Halloween, but we all know you can get it finished by next fall!..maybe;)

We can’t forget Christmas! We have another fun line from Blend fabrics called Hip Holiday.

It reminds me of Christmas Vacation when Clark puts that big tree on top of car! I couldn’t resist making this from our pattern called Fruitcakes. I spiced it up a bit though by adding a car & tree appliqué template.

Stop by the shop or give me a shout out for more info. We have some kits left and a few more half yards and yardages.

We always have the Curby Shoe patterns in stock in the shop but I’ve never made them. The thought of quilting my own fabric for this project made me whine…a lot, but this summer I visited my favorite quilt store in OKC, Oklahoma QuiltWorks, and they had this cute board display made up on how easy it was to make Curby Baby Shoes. I got Paige to do my quilted fabric and Wendy and I decided to give it a go. Besides, it would make a cute display for Madison. And guess what OKC was right. So cute and so easy!
So I made our own little display board and a couple of sets of shoes as samples.

The cowboy boot turned out super cute.
Paige quilted several yards of fabric to make kits for only $8.75. Just in case we had customers who also cringe at the thought of that part of the process:)

We cut tons of eye candy..aka Oval Elements from Art Gallery Fabrics. Everybody’s favorite. Who doesn’t want a rainbow of dots?
We ran a special of Create Any Bundle Of 11 or more and the fat quarters are as low as $2.19 a piece. Can’t beat that!

And check out our show pet, Henrietta Turtle. A pattern from Heather Bailey. My mom made this little sweetheart sample and she’s even got a unique SewMod twist..a hand crocheted flower! We kitted her up for only $13.50.

Madeline is always a hit. So she joined us again this year. Perfect for your sewing room or in my case…something pretty to look at while I get ready in the morning. She adorns my bathroom wall. $16.00 for the scrappy kit and pattern.

Several of our customers today commented on how reasonable our kits and overall pricing was. It’s nice to be able to provide that and pass some savings on to them. I even stood outside yesterday and passed out our extra vendor passes to four lucky ladies. Good deeds to start your day off right. It felt good!

We’re looking forward to another great day today. We hope you’ll join us. If not, check back for more pics!
